The group are an English rock group started in the early 1970s by Bryan Ferry.
They attained most of their success in the United Kingdom (UK) and Europe throughout the 1970s and into the early 1980s, starting with their chart-topping debut album, back in 1972. The group had their success at the same time as other popular pop idols like T.Rex and David Bowie.
As an art student and teacher at the University of Newcastle, Bryan Ferry formed the band about 1971 with Graham Simpson, Andy Mackay and Brian Eno. Bryan and founding member Eno have also had influential solo careers.
Bryan Ferry (vocals, keyboards) had studied art with Richard Hamilton at the University of Newcastle before forming Roxy Music in 1971. While at university, he sang in rock bands, joining the R&B group the Gas Board, Brian Eno joined the band. By the summer of 1971, the groups drummer Paul Thompson and guitarist Davy O'List, who had previously played with the Nice. Prior to recording their first album, Simpson left the band.
